Faithful Donor Gives 100th Pint of Blood

Calvin Dean of Dothan, AL donates 100th Pint of Blood
with the help of American Red Cross Nurse Terri Nobles |
(Feb. 1, 2006) -- Calvin Dean learned the importance of a healthy and
stable blood supply in the 1950’s when he served as a medic in the Korean
War. On Thursday, January 26, 2006 Mr. Dean donated his 100th pint of blood
(That’s 12½ gallons!) at the Wiregrass Area Chapter of the American Red
Cross Blood Donor Room in Dothan, AL, which is open on Thursdays from 1pm
until 7pm.
You may think of a pint as being a small measurement, but one pint of
blood could mean life or death to someone who needs a life sustaining or a
life saving blood transfusion.
His lifetime commitment to saving lives through blood donation is truly
appreciated by the American Red Cross as well as the hospital patients
throughout the Alabama and Central Gulf Coast Region.
Each blood donation can touch up to three lives,
which means that Mr. Dean alone has helped as many as 300 people have a
second chance at life.
“Mr. Dean deserves our recognition and our community
needs the blood,” said Susan Holmes, Executive Director of the Wiregrass
Area Chapter of the American Red Cross. “I hope other people will be
inspired by his acts of kindness.”
