(March 16, 2007) Montgomery, AL -- Two hours a year. 120 minutes out of 525,600.
Fortunately, that’s all it takes to fill another life with countless minutes,
hours and days, moments that would have otherwise been lost had life-saving
blood not been on hand in the event of a medical emergency.
The truth is simple: blood donors save lives. And once again this year, local
donors will have a chance to not only save lives, but enrich them as well
through the America Red Cross Bunnies for Babies Blood Drive.
Blood, moreover blood donors, can save up to two lives per donation. Some 700
donations are needed per day in our area alone just to meet the current need for
blood, creating a constantly critical need for donors who roll up their sleeves
to save the lives of their neighbors. The time donors take to give the gift of
life will save the lives of mothers and fathers, daughters and sons, sisters and
brothers.
Through the Bunnies for Babies drive, donors will not only provide life-giving
blood, but they also get the chance to make an impact on the life of a young
resident at the United Methodist Children’s Home in Selma. Every donor will
receive a card to sign, and that card will be placed on a stuffed bunny that
will be presented to a child at UMCH during the week following the drive.
It’s just that simple. Take a few minutes and directly touch up to three lives
in our community. There really is no greater gift one can give.
The Montgomery Bunnies for Babies drive will be held on Friday, March 23 from 1
p.m. until 6 p.m. at the Centre Court of Eastdale Mall in Montgomery. Donors
will receive a free T-shirt for donating blood.
To donate, you must be 17 years old or older, weigh at least 110 pounds and be
in general good health. If you are sick and cannot donate on the day of the
drive, please encourage a friend or loved one to donate in your place. If
everyone who could donate would donate, there would never be a blood shortage in
our region.
Be a hero to your neighbors in need and touch a child’s life. Remember, when you
give blood, give life.
Together, we can save a life |
