When the time was right to start a family, Laurie Satinoff became pregnant with her first son, Ari. Everything went smoothly with the pregnancy and delivery. After three years had passed, Laurie and her husband Andrew decided it was time to complete their family and have a second child.
While giving birth to her second son, Ben, Laurie had a placental abruption which caused
her to lose enormous amounts of blood.
Due to the extensive and rapid blood loss, Laurie’s body went into disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC), which interferes with your blood's natural ability to clot, which results in further blood loss. Excessive bleeding and DIC often require blood transfusions, which was how Laurie’s case was handled. Due to other complications, Laurie also received numerous transfusions of plasma.
Laurie has always been a regular blood donor, and now that she is able to donate again, her goal is to replace all the blood that was given to her and hopefully save someone else’s life. "Because people took the time to donate, I am healthy and alive and so is my beautiful baby."
