GEORGIA SOCIETY OF CERTIFIED PUBLIC ACCOUNTANTS
CHALLENGES MEMBERS TO DONATE 100 GALLONS OF
BLOOD THIS YEAR WITH THE AMERICAN RED CROSS
Kick-off blood drive to take place Friday, Jan. 14
(Friday, Jan. 14 2005) ATLANTA – The Georgia Society of Certified Public Accountants (GSCPA) has teamed up with the American Red Cross Blood Services to encourage members of the Society to donate at least 100 gallons of blood this year, which adds up to 800 people donating blood. The kick-off for this statewide project is Friday, January 14 at the GSCPA office located at 3353 Peachtree Road in Buckhead. A donation center will be set up from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m. Currently, the blood supply is low and all eligible donors are encouraged to attend the drive.
“We wanted to do something for the communities in which we work and live in honor of our 100th year,” said Denise Mummert, president-elect of the Georgia Society of CPAs. “This is a great way our members can participate in a statewide program wherever they live and in a timeframe that is convenient for them.”
All members of GSCPA are encouraged to contact Sharon Woods at (404) 504-2934 for a list of participating blood drives. Participants will be mentioned in the chapter e-mail and will have their names listed on the Web site. For information regarding blood donation, please visit the Red Cross Web site at www.givebloodredcross.org.
The American Red Cross Blood Services Southern Region needs approximately 1,200 people to donate blood each weekday just to make sure there is enough blood available for local hospital patients. Most healthy people age 17 or older who weigh at least 110 pounds are eligible to donate blood every 56 days. If every eligible donor gave blood at least twice each year, there would never be seasonal shortages.
The Georgia Society of Certified Public Accountants, established in 1905, is the premier professional organization for CPAs in the state of Georgia. With more than 10,400 members throughout the state, the purpose of the GSCPA is to promote the study of accountancy and applicable laws, provide continuing professional education, maintain high ethical and work standards, and provide information about accounting issues to the membership and the public.
