AMERICAN RED CROSS URGES DONORS TO GIVE IN THE WINTER MONTHS
(Friday, Sept. 9, 2005) ATLANTA - The American Red Cross would like thank all those who have donated blood and platelets in the wake of the Hurricane Katrina. This outpouring of generosity will benefit Hurricane Katrina victims as well as those in need of blood in Georgia. Because of the magnitude of this disaster, the need for blood in the Gulf region and our region will be present for many months to come. When Hurricane Katrina is no longer in the news blood and platelets will still be badly needed. You can help the Red Cross by donating in October, November, and December to enable us to meet the continuing demand at hospitals caring both for survivor victims and local patients.
Since blood is good for a limited time and cannot be stored beyond its 42-day shelf life, ongoing donations are imperative. Donors should also consider giving platelets, which are needed by cancer patients and others with serious diseases. To help in other ways, please use the following contact numbers:
