Alex Hallmark with DRD Rep Lu Johnson Flowers For The One You Love
Kristen Xerras of Charlotte, NC, has won the February 2008 promotion, “Flowers for the One You Love.” As winner, Xerras will receive flowers for a year from Carithers Flowers of Atlanta, Ga. She donated at Charlotte Country Day School (CCDS).

Xerras, a 1991 graduate of CCDS, has twin 6-year old daughters enrolled at the school. Donating for the first time since she was a student in college, she told Libby Bond, Carolinas Blood Services Donor Recruitment Representative she saw Red Cross signs informing passer-bys near and at the school about the blood drive. Xerras said, "I just said to myself the day of the drive, I have no reason not to donate again and I hope more mothers will do the same. Who would have thought after all these years, the first time I donated, I would win flowers for a year?"

Jeffrey Byrd with DRD Rep Perri Coltrane Live Life, Give Life
Jeffrey Byrd of Lexington, NC, has won the January 2008 promotion, "Live Life, Give Life." As winner of the promotion, Byrd received a $500 Visa gift card. He donated at Lexington’s Good Hope United Methodist Church (UMC). His name was drawn from a total of 26,931 entries.

Byrd, a contractor with Rogers Builders of Charlotte, NC, said a member of the church asked him to participate. It was his second time donating blood. With three children at home, Byrd said he knew just how the gift card would get used. Kenneth Drum of Good Hope UMC is the coordinating sponsor. Good Hope UMC will begin offering semi-annual drives this year.

Alex Hallmark, a sculptor from Blowing Rock, NC, has won the "Live Life, Give Life!" American Red Cross promotion for January 2008. Hallmark, who donated at a blood drive sponsored by The Rotary Club of Blowing Rock, won one of two $500 Visa gift cards. His name was drawn from 26,931 entries.

Thanking Hallmark for his support of the Red Cross was Lu Johnson, Senior Donor Recruitment Representative, Carolinas Blood Services Region. Johnson joined Hallmark at one of the three Rotary Club blood drive sites, the Mariam and Robert Hayes Performing Arts Center. They stand behind one of Hallmark’s commissioned works "Theater," on permanent display at the entrance to the center.

Kathey Craig has a great Season of Hope! Season of Hope
Kathey Craig of Wilmington, NC, won the December 2007 Season of Hope promotion for the Carolinas Blood Services Region. Craig, who donated at the Wilmington Donation Center, was one of 25,875 donors who entered the contest. As winner of the drawing, Craig was awarded a $1,000 Gift Card.

Since Craig was away visiting one of her children and a new granddaughter, Jennifer Craig Burdette, another of Craig’s children and a regular Red Cross blood donor like her mother, represented Craig as Red Cross officials awarded the prize.

Barry Hooker, Donor Recruitment Manager, Wilmington Service Area, presented Jennifer the gift card and thanked both mother and daughter for their long support of and donations to the American Red Cross.

Tammy McGhee wins 'Thanks For Giving Promotion'! Thanks For Giving
Tammy McGhee (pictured above on left) of Durham, NC, has won the November 2007 “Thanks for Giving” promotion presented by the Carolinas Blood Services Region of the American Red Cross. McGhee, an employee at Biogen Idec, won two domestic roundtrip Delta Air Lines tickets.

McGhee donates regularly at Biogen Idec, a regular host of employee blood drives, and at the Durham Donation Center. She says the fact that her son has a blood deficiency prompted her to begin supporting the American Red Cross. “My son will never be able to donate, but he comes with me regularly when I donate so I can make sure he sees and realizes the importance of giving and helping others,” McGhee said.

Lori Wright - Fall Into Donating Winner! Fall Into Donating
Lori Wright of Mt. Ulla, NC, was the winner in the Carolinas Blood Services Region’s October 2007 promotion, Fall into Donating. Wright, who donated at Centenary Church in Mt. Ulla, won two passes to the Biltmore Estate and a two-night stay at 1847 Blake House Inn, both located in Asheville, NC.

Wright, a teacher’s assistant at East Mooresville Intermediate School, is married and has two children. With her thirteenth anniversary quickly approaching, Wright later remarked that she now had final arrangements for a second honeymoon.

Reid Evans - September winner! Save A Life and See The World
Reid Evans of Stanley, NC, a java developer at Wachovia CIC, has won the September 2007 “Save a Life and See the World” American Red Cross promotion. Evans’ name was drawn from 29,188 entries and as winner, he received two roundtrip international airline tickets with Delta Air Lines.

Thanking Evans for his support of the American Red Cross and congratulating him on his prize was Carolinas Blood Services Region CEO Robert Fechner. Carolinas Blood Services Region Donor Recruitment Director Lisa Cole was also on-hand for the presentation held in the American Red Cross Donor Room at Wachovia CIC in Charlotte, NC.
